About

What is Pilax & Who am I?

First, the name: Pil- Pilates, lax- relax. Pilax is a Mat series that combines Pilates and relaxation techniques. I'm possibly the laziest Pilates teacher I know and that was before covid. Think comfy, cosy Pilates, still traditional but it gives you a gentle gradual push. I’ve developed this style after honestly, years of hating exercise and, I’m a dancer. I love dancing but keeping myself strong with focused exercise was not a favourite activity of mine.

My methods come from years of dance training in New Zealand, Canada, USA and China, taking Pilates classes, training as an instructor, having physio sessions as well as techniques I have discovered myself. I’m a certified Pilates instructor through Balanced Body Pilates and I have been teaching Pilates since the pandemic. I’ve had the privilege to be exposed to a variety of methods from various teachers over the years and one of the keys things I’ve learnt in my journey is listening to my own body. I remember one day a physio gave me a book to read in the waiting room on techniques to help with fascia release. I was delighted to discover, several of those, I had naturally found myself a year prior, just through listening to my body. I’d like to invite you to come on a journey guided by myself to not only gaining better mobility, keeping up fitness but also, discovering your own strength and learning to listen to your own body.

Pilax is a gentle and accessible approach to movement. I offer mat Pilates-based classes designed especially for beginners, self-confessed "lazy exercisers," and anyone who wants to move with more awareness and ease. My sessions focus on technique, having fun, not intensity—helping you build strength, stability, and connection at your own pace.

I also run classes under the 'Rise Up' section for people living with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or long COVID, creating a safe and supportive space to move gently and rebuild trust in your body. I developed this by experimenting on myself after suffering side effects from covid long term. I'd had CFS before with mono/glandular fever, but this was a whole new ball game. To this day, no one day is the same for me. But I recognize the importance of making sure I don't become sedentary. These classes are offered as a guide to help other CFS warriors stay moving within their own home via gentle Pilates and dance-based movement.
